A Face That Knows by Michael Kwolek is a novelette where the horror creeps up on you steadily.

There is a darkness to the imagery that I obviously enjoyed, and I personally found the writing to be a little Edgar Allan Poe-esque within its vintage-feel.
The story was compelling and pulled me in!
Ending this review with one of my favorite quotes from the story:
"With each step, an insidious unease swept over us like
the shadow of a silent god, ancient and disfigured."
