Review of "The Kingdom of the Fae (Book 1)" by A. M. Percolides
I ran through this book because once I got caught up in the momentum, I couldn't put it down.
The Kingdom of the Fae (Book 1) by A. M. Percolides is such an enthralling story!
Though this fantasy novel is more for children, I think anyone could enjoy it regardless of age—I certainly did.
There is lots to be fond of outside of the fairytale-elements, such as Percolides not shying away from the portrayal of complicated emotions such as grief, and dealing with new familial dynamics, in children.
AND Oliver's sarcasm provided some of my favorite scenes (kid's funny, what can I say?) The development of his relationship with his step-sister, Lizzie, is also something I thought was done well.
Quotes I thought were neat:
• "Here though, she was still okay. She looked happy, as though she was being kept safe within the self-contained world of the picture."

• "It wasn't any realer than the Fae Kingdom was, but it felt like it. Realness had a heaviness to it that dragged Oliver down."

The Kingdom of the Fae reminds me of The Chronicles of Narnia by C. S. Lewis, and the Alice in Wonderland (2010) movie! All three have beautiful fantastical elements, and provide worlds that are super easy to get lost in.
This is the type of book I would have loved as a kid, and I can't wait for the second installment! There's still lots to develop on; Percolides did a wonderful job in leaving me curious.
