you told me not to write about you is a collection of poetry that will haunt you long after you finish reading it!

"stuck in lowercase" is the poem that, to me, perfectly encapsulates the heartache and feeling of loss (of a person, of yourself) after a relationship so toxic; a poem in which kayjah taylor captures the theme of her book so well (it's also why i'm typing my review in all lowercase 👀)

the emotions in this book are very real and very palpable; kayjah is a master of saying so much and boring her way into your heart and soul with just a few lines. reading a whole book of her work is enough to bring the reader (me) to tears!

the final few poems present a curve of healing, which i really enjoyed. like she wrote in her acknowledgements: "broken hearts are real but remember, you can heal from heartache too."

that's not even mentioning the cover art and art inside of the book itself. the piece accompanying "i wished my spine could grow spikes" is something i could stare at forever.

so, not only does she provide masterful writing, her art also draws you in. i'm looking forward to seeing what she releases next!

until then, i will be crying over this book and leave you with a quote —

"you were never strong

enough to give me all

of you since the beginning," (you always said i'd be the one to break us)
